Ruaha National Park has covered 20,226 km² since 2008 and the annexation of Usangu. It is the second largest park.. Tanzania. It contains a large concentration of elephants and a very varied vegetation, with around 1,650 species of plants. The Ruaha River is one of the few water sources in the park and attracts a large number of animals during the dry season.

Ruaha National Park is a treasure trove of biodiversity, with around 1,650 plant species. It is the only park in East Africa where you can see both lesser and greater kudu. Its varied vegetation and the presence of the Ruaha River attract many animals, especially during the dry season. The river is a crucial watering hole, forming a striking contrast with the surrounding bush.

THE HIPPOPOTAMUS
It's impossible to talk about Ruaha National Park without mentioning the hippopotamus. You can see them out of the water and hear them frequently. Amphibious, the dominant males guard a territory of around 500 metres. They spend the day in the water to avoid dehydration and come out at night to feed, consuming around 40 kg of grass.
Hippos follow a precise path when they go out, digging clearly visible trails. Males fight violently, using their canines in confrontations. Females are devoted mothers, carrying their young for 8 months and nursing them for a year. The young can swim before they can walk and can multiply their weight by 10 in the first year.
