FISHING IN TANZANIA

There are many fishing villages in the Saadani region. Some of them even still live in the park, which is very recent. It only became a national park in 2002. You may therefore come across some of the park's inhabitants during your safari. You'll also see some abandoned houses still standing in the area.

The vast majority of fish caught in Tanzania is for local consumption only.

Most of freshwater fishing takes place in large lakes such as Lake Victoria.

Fishing in the Indian Ocean is carried out by small-scale fishermen such as those living in the Saadani region. They mainly catch lobsters, prawns and deep-sea fish.’

Expert's tip

“Saadani Park is a very pleasant place to relax on the beach after a safari in the north of the country. The animals are less concentrated here than in the north and the beaches less beautiful than in Zanzibar, but the magic of a seaside safari works!
The park is just 30 minutes by plane from Zanzibar international airport. You can leave from there after your trip, or take advantage of it to continue your stay on the island.
