Mount Meru is a volcano that rises to an altitude of 4,656 metres. It is the second highest peak in Tanzania and the fourth highest in Africa. It overlooks the town of Arusha.
Mont Meru is still considered an active volcano, having last erupted in 1910.
The official name of Mount Meru is Socialist Peak. But tt is also known as "Ol Doinyo Orok" by the Masais, meaning "Black Mountain". Mount Meru is part of the Arusha National Park.
